Whitehorse Business Group Excellence in Business Awards

MCL Constructions is in the business of culture change -- they are also a boutique builder targeting clients looking for quality craftsmanship and individuality in their new home. The culture change is about MCL's radical approach to customer service in the building industry -- enabling people to live in their dream environment.

So stated the judges at the '2007 Whitehorse Business Group Excellence in Business Awards'. MCL Constructions, with their proven catchphrase of 'We create a home you'll love coming home to' were awarded the The Nesso Award for Excellence.

The Judges were impressed particularly by MCL's strong customer focus and their clear sense of identity based on core values of honesty and integrity. They also noted MCL's strong emphasis on attention to detail and master craftsmanship.

MCL Constructions, run by CEO Campbell McLennan who is himself an award-winning carpenter, maintains significant annual growth in an industry where success and respect are earned only by consistent, high-quality service and results. McLennan attributes MCL's strong growth to the company's insistence on maintaining these core values.

'We know that in order to succeed, you must surround yourself with the right talent, be that employees, sub-contractors or business advisers,' says McLennan. 'We look to create open, loyal and long-lasting relationships with our clients. They trust us to deliver on our commitments. Meeting the needs of every client is critical to our on-going and future success. We create beautiful homes and extensions that enable people to live in their dream environment. We place great value on our good reputation for credibility, quality workmanship and integrity'.

Australian Timber Design Awards

MCL Constructions was chosen as a Finalist in the Exterior Structures category in the Australian Timber Design Awards, awards that showcase outstanding timber design in the environmental building professions.

Entries are judged on exceptional timber use, well-considered design and construction, workmanship, and innovation. And each year the judging panel comprises an architect, an engineer, an academic and a builder, with the judging presided over by a timber industry member. Winners are chosen who excel in all aspects of design.

For this award, MCL Constructions created a workshop and garage structure commissioned by a client who wanted a space that was both a workshop for woodwork projects, while also embracing the traditional, well-crafted timber construction reminiscent of an early settler’s cottage. Strong aesthetic value combined with functional design were key features of MCL Constructions’ outstanding entry that won them the Finalist’s place.
